NINRemixes.com 5.2

Another significant update today.

New feature: Tags. Tags are short words or phrases seperated by commas which describe the song. The three most popular of all the tags entered by everybody will be the ones that are displayed by default in blue. Your tags will be hued green. In addition to providing useful and relevant information in an easy to read, compact form, the tagging feature makes search results more accurate by creating an index of metadata for the search engine to scan.

Like other sites which have implemented similar tagging systems, this new feature is highly experimental. Its success depends on how much and what kind of participation we get from users. There will undoubtedly be abuse. But it is my prediction (or perhaps hope) that positive participation will largely erode it. Please be kind to the tagging system!

Also, reading and writing reviews now no longer requires navigating off the main page. Now you can listen to the inline MP3 player and read/write reviews at the same time!

Some Changes

Just a quick note to let you know that the Feedback section has returned and there has been a policy change concerning reviews. Because of the volume of reviews we receive, they will no longer be moderated by site staff in full. Instead, all reviews submitted will be immediately posted. Anyone who notices an abusive review can flag it as abusive, and a member of the site staff will investigate and delete the abusive review if necessary. Also, please DO NOT send your remixes to us using E-mail unless your remix is larger than 7mb, as it creates extra work for us.

Update: The visuals section and remikipedia have also returned. I'll be bringing back the articles and featured remixes in the next update.

NINRemixes.com v5.0!

CRK and I would like to officially welcome you to NINRemixes.com version 5.0!

This new version is primarily usability focused, taking a minimalistic approach. You'll notice lots of layout changes and that the overall design and flow of the website is completely different. The goal is to make the site easier to use for everyone. You may also notice there are a lot of missing sections and features! Here's the complete list of things we've purged:

The "Halo Safe" column on the remix pages (we still track this data, but it is no longer public)

Standalone mp3 player

Torrent (this is definitely coming back at some point)

Featured Mixes (this will also definitely be coming back at some point)

Shoutcast (this feature may come back if CRK has the time)

Gallery

Articles

Remikipedia

Streams

Chat

Feedback (this will definitely be coming back at some point)

The torrent, featured mixes, and feedback sections will DEFINITELY be coming back at some point. As for the rest, that's all up in the air. It depends entirely on how much (if any) complaints we get. The reason for all this purging was primarily to clean house under the hood, but also because I felt this site should stay true to what it is. A site for NIN remixes. And now that's what you see front and center, front page of the site. Enjoy! And feel free to discuss the changes on the shoutbox, which now has its own section.

First off before getting into this announcement, I wanted to personally thank everyone for making this site as great as it can be. Notably, the operatives who I would be crippled without, the die-hard supporters who are always a pleasure to have around, the many sites like theninhotline, ETS, and the Official NIN website, for spreading the word, and helping fans find this place, and of course Trent and all responsible for making this whole thing possible. The list is a mile long, and if you think that you deserve a thanks here, insert your name, cause chances are, I am thankful for your contributions and support.Truly, Thank You.

Now, onto the news...theres semi-alot today folks....
I've updated the streams area, with a couple new videos, and have also gone ahead and fixed small unreported bugs that users may have experienced. Please feel free to submit videos for this section, by contacting me via email to discuss getting the file to us.

The site has also become somewhat of an organic entity now, with visuals, and Knowledge Base Information still being updated by users, so even if something doesn't appear here, you might want to surf around a bit to see whats new!
Got a NIN related site? Well, I decided to do a banner exchange, so if you would like to be listed under our links, get ahold of me. Simply Put, scratch my back, I'll scratch yours, put a ninremixes.com banner on your site, and we'll put one on ours...

Kethinov here, I just wanted to let you all know that NINRemixes.com has reached a new milestone. The logs indicate that we've now transferred one terabyte of data since our founding! With over 7,000,000 hits and nearly 7gb of music, this site has really grown, and it's all thanks the dedicated fans and mix authors.
Scores System Live

New Official and Unofficial audio added today!

Also, I've deployed the scores system live. This is currently a beta test. We may decide to make changes later. At present, this new scoring system rewards remixes which get positive reviews and lots of votes, and penalizes remixes which get few votes and poor reviews. One major advantage to the scoring system is that it uses a ratio of votes to downloads to determine the initial weight of the score, meaning new remixes can climb the score ladder much faster than the votes ladder. This makes the scoring system much fairer to new remixes than by simply sorting by quantity of votes. For the time being, I have made Scores the default sort. Some preemptive answers to questions:

Question: What makes a song eligible for a score?
Answer: The song must have at least one vote and more downloads than votes. Also, songs with very low scores are labeled as unscored.

Question: What kind of things will give me a good score?
Answer: In order to get a good score, a song must have a high percentage of user votes compared to its downloads and have good reviews.

Question: What kind of things will hurt my remix's score?
Answer: No reviews, or lots of downloads but few votes and poor reviews.

Enjoy,
-- Kethinov

P.S. the full 500 original THTF remixes are now in the DBCore. *bows*
